Dear Friends,
Thank
God... It's Monday!
A key question in
wanting to minister to men is:
“Where do the majority of men spend the majority of
their time interacting with a majority of lost people? The answer is … at their workplaces.
Men gain their identities
and self-esteem from their work.
Men were created to work.
Adam was commissioned to work the earth to meet the needs of his
family. Men are hard wired for
work. Os Hillman of
Marketplaceleaders.org calls the workplace the “Central Nervous System”
of a man’s heart.
Over 50% of problems
discussed in men’s small groups are work related. Work is the #1 cause of stress in men’s
lives; and unfortunately it spills over into their marriages and families
as well. Yet amazingly over 90% of
men have never heard a message relating Biblical principles to the
workplace from the pulpit!
Dr. Billy Graham was
quoted as saying “I believe one of the next moves of God is going to be
through the believers in the workplace.”
George Barna, in his book “Boiling
Point,” even went so far to say: “workplace ministry will be one of the core
future innovations in church ministry.”
But how can the church’s mission to men equip them to be ministers
at work? Here are a couple of ideas
from Os Hillman:
1.
Pray for
workplace believers and their businesses.
2.
Teach a
small group Bible study on work as a man’s divine calling.
3.
Encourage
men who are experiencing Christ in their workplace to share their
testimonies.
4.
Encourage
your pastor to do a sermon series on the Theology of Work.
5.
Begin a
faith and work resource library at your church.
Bottom
line – if you impact men at their greatest point of need – their jobs,
transformation will happen, and ministry will occur. Building men will strengthen our homes
and churches!
Building men,
marriages and families,
