Dear Friends,
Talk
About Love
Today is Valentines Day. What a
wonderful opportunity to develop some biblical character traits into our
children, while focusing on the theme of the holiday as well... Love.
Read the "love chapter" of the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13,
aloud as a family. Talk about each
of the characteristics of love.
Ask them to define each characteristic and to explain what they
could “look” like in your family.
To keep this in front of your family, hang a copy of all the
characteristics of love as given in 1 Cor
13:4-7 on your refrigerator or in another prominent place. Each time the word love should appear, leave a blank
instead. For example: ________ is patient. Whenever someone in your family catches
another family member exhibiting that particular characteristic, write
that person's name in the blank.
At the end of this week, remove the certificate and read it out
loud. The result will be something like this: "Hannah is patient.
Matthew is kind. Dad does not envy..." etc.
Make it your family's goal to exhibit those qualities throughout the
year!
*1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love...
is patient,
is kind.
does not envy,
does not boast,
is not proud.
is not rude,
is not self-seeking,
is not easily angered,
keeps no record of wrongs.
does not delight in evil, but
rejoices with the truth.
always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
Happy Valentines Day!
