Fan the Flame Date Nite - September 7, 2006
Our first Fan the Flame Date Nite of the 2006 -2007 season unveiled at the Eden Resort on September 7th. We had a crowd of 40 couples for our inaugural event.
Kapp and Linda started the evening off with a powerful drama introducing us to the “crazy cycle.” We were introduced to a couple who had a big fight due to their not feeling loved or respected. Two more vignettes spread throughout the evening completed the story ending with two apologies and an unusual mix of dinner menus!
Speaking of dinner menus, the Eden put out an elegant buffet of chicken and carved roast beef surrounded by salad, fruit and veggies. The desserts were ... well there is no such thing as a bad dessert! Let’s just say that: “Nobody went home hungry!”
Amanda presented three “lucky couples” with some fun “Light Up the Night Date Nite Kits” as door prizes. These prizes were made available by our Fan the Flame business sponsors.
Bruce and Karen, who were celebrating their 32nd anniversary, introduced this year’s theme: “We Go ‘Round in Circles” based on the best selling book Love and Respect. The first of three cycles in marriage is the “crazy cycle.” Woman need and want love … men need and want respect. Ephesians 5:33 commands us as husbands to love our wives and as wives to respect our husbands. God commands it because it does not come naturally to either of us.
The idea of blue and pink sunglasses, megaphones, and hearing aids emphasized the differences between how men and women differ in seeing things, saying things and hearing things. The root issue is communicating love and respect to one another. We ended the night with some practical suggestions on how to inform one another that we are caught up in the cycle and what we need to say and do to get off the spinning wheel.
Couples were challenged with four follow up steps: buy Love
and Respect, attend the next FTF
Date Nite on November 2, read part one of the book together and talk
about it, and sign up for the “Sparks” e-mail prompt to remind
them of these follow up steps.
